At BizAcademi, we use photos everywhere: on our website, social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram, and in all of our articles posted here in the community. They're also found in our courses, groups, and certain events; in other words, we visit these photo websites often.
What are stock-free images?
Stock-free images are images that you can download without paying a fee for use, also known as a license. Due to the growth of the internet, stock-free images have become easier to find.
These relatively-new stock-free websites are mutually beneficial: professional photographers, aspiring newbies, and even occasional hobbyists can showcase their work online, giving them greater exposure to the market while providing businesses with a way to download high-quality photos without breaking the bank or worrying about copyright infringement.
Although the images on these websites do not require attribution, most artists appreciate it if you give credit to the photographer in a visible space, like in the footer of your website.
Below are three of our most commonly visited websites and their specific perks.
Pexels
Pexels is our go-to website for incredibly high-quality stock-free photos on almost any subject you can imagine. Type any word into the search bar, or select the "Discover" tab to browse through photo collections that have been assembled according to their theme. You can collect photos or choose to download your photo according to your desired size: original, large, medium, small, and custom. If you decide to create an account, you can "collect" photos for use later and save room on your computer's hard drive.
You can download Pexels on your iPhone or Android through the Apple and Google Play stores, connect it to your Adobe account, as a plugin on WordPress, or as an extension on Chrome and Google Slides.
Pixabay
Pixabay is another site that we use from time to time; its unique "Wallpaper" tab is a great place to find large-sized photos for use on your desktop.
It should be noted that while the majority of the images that you will find on Pixabay are stock free, there are some that require, at the very minimum, attribution somewhere on the page. For more information about their attribution requirements, visit this page.
You can connect Pixabay to Adobe Photoshop, or use it as a plugin on WordPress, as an extension on Chrome and Google Docs, and many more.
ONLINE COURSE
The Influential Leader
Take this mini-course to learn the basics of influential leadership so you can boldly lead your team wherever it needs to go or prepare for that next promotion opportunity.
Unsplash
Although Unsplash is also a stock-free photo website that features many of the same types of images that Pexels and Pixabay do, their approach is a little different. Unsplash emphasizes the human behind the camera, and works hard to showcase photos from "creators all over the world." At the time of this article, they have teamed up with Skillshare to showcase their followers' new creative activities.
You can search for Unsplash photos when editing your Squarespace or Wix website, connect the plugin on WordPress, use it to create visually appealing newsletters in Mailchimp, download the app for iOS, or display high-resolution images on your AppleTV.
