FACING SETBACKS WITH POSITIVITY
Every once and a while, we all feel a little stuck. Here's what to do when that happens.
In business, unplanned setbacks can cause overwhelm, leading to undermotivation due to the sheer number of things that have been added to the to-do list, and causing us to question all of our previous business decisions. In the worst-case scenario, these setbacks can leave us wondering if it is even a good idea to continue with our venture at all.
Before you go and cancel your business license and the lease on your brick-and-mortar location, pause and take a breath.
When you’re feeling stuck, undermotivated, or overwhelmed, it helps to take a step back from it all and look at the whole situation objectively.
Here are four main things that you need to realize before you make any rash decisions:
You started for a reason
Think back to the day when it all began, the day you decided that you wanted to start your own business and the feeling of excitement (and yes, apprehension) that you had when you finally said: “Okay, let’s do it!”
Who or what motivated you to begin your journey?
Think about why you started in the first place. What will your customers gain from your company?
What is the end goal, the reward at the end of the long road? How do you feel when you think of that reward?
You're not the only one
We’ve all been where you are. You aren’t the first person to feel apprehensive, stuck, overwhelmed, or unmotivated, and you won’t be the last. The trick is in knowing how to stop and acknowledge how you feel, to recognize the cause(s) of your apprehension/overwhelm/lack of motivation/etc. and to learn how to move forward from there.

Fear is a liar
We’re all human, and we all feel fear – after all, it is a feeling that is intended to ensure our survival. But just because fear is a very real feeling, it doesn’t have to manifest itself in our reality. What I mean is that even though, as a human being, you are predisposed to feel fear, it doesn’t have to dictate whether or not you make that difficult decision, take the road less travelled, or to take that leap into the unknown.
Support is key
You may benefit from a support system. This takes many forms: voicing your feelings to a friend, joining a social media page with other entrepreneurs, or getting a business advisor are just some examples.
