Create stand-out graphics
online using Canva
In this content-heavy world that we now live in, good-looking graphics can be the difference between catching the attention of a potential customer or being lost forever.
One of the main problems that entrepreneurs face is that they often have to stick to a very tight budget when it comes to graphics design and advertising, with many opting instead to create their own images for Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, email headers, etc.
The search for high-quality, copyright-free photos that fit with the style of the business in question can be time-consuming (we've created a list of places where you can get high-quality photos for free right here), but one of the main problems that entrepreneurs face when they decide to create their own graphics has to do with adhering to platform-specific size recommendations.
Recommended graphics size varies from platform to platform; the dimensions of an image that one posts on Facebook, for example, are different from an image that is posted on Instagram; and the Facebook post size differs from that of a Facebook story, Facebook event, or even a Facebook cover photo.
You get the point.
When entrepreneurs create their own graphics with only one size in mind, what often happens is that the subject of the photo or, in cases where text is present, part of the message is cut off from the viewer. There's nothing worse than not being able to read text in a photo because the image dimensions do not meet the size guidelines.
So how does one determine the size requirements for each platform, keep track of them, and ensure that the content that they create fits perfectly within those dimensions?
It used to be a lot harder than it is now. As recently as a couple of years ago, I had a booklet with all of the dimensions written down for Facebook (Post, Event, Cover, Profile, etcetera), Instagram (Post or Story), and so on. The problem was that these dimensions were prone to change, and I had to ensure that I double-checked that the dimensions were not different every time I wanted to create something new. Now that's time-consuming.
