DOS AND DONTS
Online posting etiquette for entrepreneurs and small businesses
The world is shifting online - and the interactions that we share on the web are just as important as the ones we experience in person. We've compiled a quick list of some of the most important Do's and Don'ts that you should keep in mind when posting content online.
Make sure that your branding is consistent across all social networks
Work on your brand’s identity, including its personality and tone
Make use of all visual space provided on these networks
Consistently post on each of your accounts. This doesn't mean you have to post five times every day for the rest of your life, but it's important to keep in mind that if you post very infrequently, your audience may start to wonder whether or not you're around
Interact with your audience on social media (be sure to keep it professional)
Understand your audience and target customers
Admit your mistakes
Understand that business growth is a slow process – it takes time to build credibility and to generate interest amongst people you may never actually meet in person
Make your social media management easier by using platforms that help you post online, such as Later and Tailwind
Post or share anything that is not in line with you or your company’s values
Don’t speak ill of an audience member, competitor, or…well, anybody really.
Send unprofessional direct messages to your audience
Overwhelm your audience
Underestimate the reach of social media and the interconnectivity of its users
DO NOT USE CAPS. It’s off-putting and is the worst way to get your message to your audience (short of using WingDings)
Violate the Terms of Service agreements on social networks
Don’t feed the trolls (seriously, don’t do it)
